In the morning, His Honour Professor the Honourable Hugh Heggie AO PSM, Administrator of the Northern Territory, met with the Honourable Eva Lawler, the outgoing Chief Minister, for a courtesy call following the outcome of the Northern Territory General Election. During this meeting, the Administrator accepted Ms Lawler’s resignation as Chief Minister.

Later, His Honour received Mrs Lia Finocchiaro, Leader of the Country Liberal Party, and invited her to form a government. Following this, the Administrator conducted a swearing-in ceremony, officially appointing Mrs Finocchiaro as the new Chief Minister of the Northern Territory and Mr Gerard Maley as a Minister in the Interim Finocchiaro Government.
