The Administrator and Ms Sue Brosnan OLY are saddened by the passing of Mr Richard (Dick) Griffiths OAM
His Honour and Ms Sue Brosnan OLY are saddened by the passing of Mr Richard (Dick) Griffiths OAM, a much-loved and respected Territorian whose lifelong dedication to the Darwin community touched many. Dick's generosity, leadership and commitment to helping others leaves a lasting legacy, and he will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Last month, Dick was named in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours List and His Honour recently had the privilege of investing Dick with the Medal of the Order of Australia in an intimate ceremony attended by his family, recognising his outstanding service to the community of Darwin.
Dick was Chief Executive Officer and owner of Bradlaw Agencies from 1974, working alongside his 4 children, and was a former Board Member of the Power and Water Corporation. He also worked as an insurance salesman with MLC Insurance and served as an Aircraft Fitter in the Royal Australian Air Force from 1959 to 1965.
Dick was a longstanding Benefactor and Volunteer of the Chung Wah Society, serving as Vice Patron before becoming Patron in 2006. He was also a member of the Darwin Turf Club and Taverners NT, a former sponsor of the Miss Australia Quest (Northern Territory), and organiser of the rose petals for Relay for Life.
For Helping People Achieve Disability Services, Dick served as Interim President, Board Member and Benefactor.
A former active sportsman, Dick played football with the Nightcliff Kickers and Macedonia, Australian football with the Wanderers Football Club, baseball with the Darwin Chinese Recreation Club and rugby league with the Returned and Services League of Australia.
Dick was also a Life Member and Benefactor of Darwin’s Waratah Football Club, where he served as a Sponsor, Committee Member, Secretary, Patron and President.
Dick was a deeply respected and much-loved member of the Northern Territory community. His generosity, kindness and commitment to serving others enriched the lives of so many, and his legacy will continue to be felt for generations to come.
His Honour and Ms Brosnan extend their heartfelt condolences to Dick’s children, Brad, Tania, Mandy and Tina, their partners, his grandchildren, extended family and many friends. They hope the family finds comfort in the knowledge that Dick was held in the highest regard, was much loved by his community, and will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.
