Mates of Murranji Centenary Muster, Newcastle Waters

His Honour attended the Mates of the Murranji Centenary Muster at the historic Newcastle Waters Township, marking 100 years since the Northern Australia Act gazetted Newcastle Waters as the proposed capital of North Australia. A plan that lasted just five years before the Act was repealed.

Since late 2020, the Mates of the Murranji, lead by Wayne ‘Krafty’ Kraft AM, have worked tirelessly to preserve and share the story of the town. What began as a group of passionate supporters has grown to around 380 members from across Australia, with many coming together each year for the annual Muster.

It was a wonderful day of celebration, bringing together people from all walks of life and from across Australia, united by their connection to Newcastle Waters and its history.

His Honour congratulates the Mates of the Murranji on their passion, dedication and determination to ensure this important chapter of Territory history is not forgotten. He also looks forward to reading Mates of Murranji: An Unbreakable Bond, written by Barry Coulter and due for release in the coming weeks.
