Guide Dogs SA or NT received at Government House
His Honour as Patron of Guide Dogs SA/NT, received Mr Dan Cox, Chief Executive Officer of Guide Dogs SA/NT, Mr Jason Clark, Chief Operating Officer and Ms Alana Tiller, Consumer Liaison Officer accompanied by her guide dog Rocket at Government House.
The visit provided an opportunity to learn more about the vital work Guide Dogs SA/NT undertakes to support people who are blind or have low vision across the Northern Territory. While widely recognised for its Guide Dogs, the organisation delivers a comprehensive range of specialist vision services, including low vision assessments, orientation and mobility training, occupational therapy, assistive technology support, white cane services and neurological vision services.
During the meeting, His Honour heard that over the past 12 months Guide Dogs SA/NT has delivered 542 hours of specialist vision services to 90 clients across the Territory. Clinicians have travelled thousands of kilometres to provide essential support to people living in regional and remote communities, from the Tiwi Islands to Alice Springs and beyond.
The discussion also highlighted the increasing demand for these services and Guide Dogs SA/NT's commitment to expanding its local clinical workforce to ensure more Territorians can access the specialist support they need.
