Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair celebrates 20 years
The Administrator and Ms Sue Brosnan OLY joined artists, Art Centres and supporters for the opening ceremony of the 20th Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair (DAAF) at the Darwin Convention Centre.
Bringing together 75 art centres from across the Northern Territory and Australia, DAAF is an incredible celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, culture and storytelling.
A highlight for His Honour was catching up with his Daly River regional mate and world-renowned artist Kieren Karritpul McTaggart from Nauiyu and artist with Merrepen Arts.
Kieren has been creating art professionally for more than half his life, drawing on knowledge passed down through generations of his family. Inspired by the pandanus and sand palm fibre weaving he grew up watching his mother and grandmother create, Kieren transforms these traditions into intricate contemporary art that has been exhibited across Australia and internationally.
