The Administrator's speech welcoming delegates to the Meet Darwin International Familiarisation Program VIP Dinner
Distinguished guests. Ladies and gentlemen.
Good evening, and welcome to our beautiful Northern Territory.
I acknowledge the Larrakia people – the traditional owners of the beautiful land and waters that surround us here this evening.
Whether visiting Darwin and the Northern Territory for the first time, or returning to the Top End once again, our Territory will never fail to offer you something special.
As you may already have noticed, Darwin and the Territory are unique in Australia.
We are proud of our tropical climate, close-knit, friendly community and our wonderfully diverse multicultural influences.
Our cultural vibrancy is strong, with our fantastic food and art scenes, our architecture and our unique Territory social events.
We truly value our diversity. We know that we can all benefit from engaging with diverse knowledge and cultures.
With a wider range of skills and experiences we can increase innovation and creativity, creating endless exciting new opportunities.
In the Territory we are forward-thinkers. We have developed well-honed expertise in the key industry areas which are vital to the future development of our region, including oil and gas, agribusiness, mining and tourism.
Our proximity to Asia as well as the rest of Australia unlocks significant opportunities for trade and development across our region. And our modern, innovative, world class facilities - with a backdrop of ancient cultures and landscapes - offer unique opportunities for tourism, trade and industry.
Always with the obligatory warm Territory welcome and hospitality!
Our spirit is strong, and there is much to discover.
Welcome to the Territory. To our unique part of Australia.
It is a special place, and we are excited to share it with you.
Go well. Thank you.
